WHAT TO EXPECT
Infrared Sauna
The far infrared sauna has the ability to systematically eliminate internal chemicals and heavy metal toxins, including mercury. This will lower the total toxic environment load that suppresses biological function, longevity, and, ultimately, human potential"
-Dr. Jake Johnston, MD
Our bodies have become virtual dumping grounds for hundreds of thousands of toxic compounds that invade our air, water and even the soil in which our food grows. Today more than 77,000 chemicals are in active production in this country, and more than 3,000 chemicals are in our food supply.
The EPA estimates that our bodies cannot metabolize over 20,000 of these chemicals. So what happens to them? These toxic substances are stored in fat cells throughout our bodies where they continue to accumulate. In fact, studies indicate that most of us have between 400 and 800 chemical residues stored in the fat cells of our bodies.
Together, these chemicals and heavy metals create a situation of chronic toxic overload. As these toxins build up, they can cause enzyme dysfunction and nutritional deficiencies, create hormonal imbalances, damage brain chemistry, and can even lead to cancer and other debilitating chronic illnesses.

How does far infrared work?
Far Infrared is a section of the natural band of light that is not visible to the human eye, but can be felt as heat. Unlike the high heat produced in traditional saunas, far infrared heat is able to penetrate the body to a depth of 1.5 to 2 inches. This stimulates the body's cellular detoxification process more effectively than a traditional sauna. The body, incapable of metabolizing and excreting all toxins it is exposed to, often times stores toxins in fat to protect the body (called lipophillic toxins).
Infrared heat is required for all living things for optimum health. The radiant heat from our infrared sauna surrounds you and penetrates deeply into your joints, muscles and tissues increasing oxygen flow and circulation. As a result, there is an array of infrared sauna health benefits.
Our body's tissues normally produce infrared energy, which is used by the body for a number of healing processes. By delivering penetrating warmth to the body, the far infrared sauna increases the body's own infrared energy levels, encouraging a light rise in body temperature that boosts natural detoxification systems.
The sauna duplicates these healthy far infrared frequencies. The tissues selectively absorb these rays as the water in the cell reacts in a process called "resonant absorption." This resonant absorption occurs when the frequency of the far infrared matches the frequency of the water in the cell causing toxins to be dropped off into the blood stream and excreted in sweat, feces and urine.
Infrared heat is all around us and you have felt it from sources like fire, heated sand on the beach and the sun (without the harmful ultraviolet waves that the sun gives off). Just as visible light has a range of wavelengths (running from red to violet), so does infrared light: longer wavelength infrared waves are thermal, while short or near infrared waves are not hot at all, in fact, you cannot even feel them. It is the far infrared energy that is most beneficial, penetrating the skin and increasing circulation to help rid the body of harmful toxins. Near and mid infrared enhance the benefits of far infrared.
Detoxification
One of the biggest infrared sauna health benefits is its ability to increase your blood circulation and stimulate the sweat glands, releasing built-up toxins in the body.
Daily sauna sweating can help detoxify your body as it rids itself of accumulated highly toxic metals (lead, mercury, nickel, and cadmium) as well as alcohol, nicotine, sulfuric acid, and other organic and inorganic compounds.
“It has been known for decades that sweating is a wonderful way to get rid of stored chemicals, including heavy metals. In fact, sauna is one of the detoxification procedures used in the Environmental Units in Dallas (Dr. William Rea) and North Charleston (Dr. Allan Lieberman) where the sickest of folks go to heal.” Dr. Sherry Rogers, Total Wellness, May 2000.
More than detoxification:
Enhanced Immune Health: Each Infrared Sauna session causes a brief, beneficial increase in body temperature, inducing an artificial fever, which improves immune health by boosting production of infection-fighting white blood cells and killer T-cells. Fever is the body’s natural mechanism to strengthen and accelerate the immune response, as seen in the case of infection. This enhanced immune system, combined with improved elimination of toxins and wastes via intense sweating, increases your overall health and resistance to disease.
Muscle Pain Relief & Ease Joint Pain & Stiffness: Time spent in an infrared sauna benefits clients suffering from many forms of inflammation. Much of the stiffness, aches and soreness that comes with aging is reduced or eliminated. Increased blood circulation carries off metabolic waste products and delivers oxygen-rich blood to oxygen-depleted muscle, so they recover faster. Muscles relax best when tissues are warm, for greater flexibility and range of motion. Far Infrared heat relieves muscle tension. The deep heat of far infrared saunas help peripheral blood vessels dilate, bringing relief and healing to muscle and soft tissue injuries. Infrared heat also reduces soreness on nerve endings and muscle spasms as muscle joints and fibers are heated.
Stress Relief: High daily stress levels put constant strain on the body's nervous system and can contribute to chronic disease. The infrared sauna helps to reduce physical stress by boosting circulation and triggering the production of endorphins, the "feel good" hormones. Just a few minutes in the gentle warmth of an infrared sauna will help you feel relaxed, rejuvenated and renewed. Infrared Saunas have also been shown to affect the autonomic nervous system putting you in the parasympathetic (rest and digest) state allowing your body to heal.
Weight Loss and Metabolism: Toxins can play a significant role in preventing us from losing weight as well as gaining weight. Those wishing to lose weight should note that the cardiovascular effect from a single sauna burns as many as 600 calories. According to the Journal of the American Medical Association, regular use of a sauna imparts a similar boost on the cardiovascular system as running. As you relax in the gentle infrared heat, your body is hard at work producing sweat, pumping blood and burning calories. As your body increases sweat production to cool itself, your heart works harder to pump blood at a greater rate to boost circulation. This increase in your metabolism will burn calories.
Cellulite Control: Cellulite refers to superficial pockets of trapped fat, which cause uneven dimpling or “orange peel” skin. Since the far infrared radiant heat of the sauna warms three times as deep as conventional saunas, it is significantly more effective at reducing cellulite. There is a direct link between the slowing of metabolic rates and the storage of toxins in fat cells. Sauna use and far infrared heat can increase heart rate and localized blood circulation, which essentially reverses the above-mentioned trends towards the accumulation of liquids in the fat cells to reduce the appearance of cellulite.
Improves Skin: The profuse sweating achieved after just a few minutes in the Sauna carries off deeply embedded impurities and dead skin cells, leaving the skin glowing. Increased circulation draws your skin’s own natural nutrients to the surface. You’ll see improved tone, elasticity, texture and fresh color. Increased blood circulation has also been shown to relieve acne, eczema, psoriasis, burns, lesions and cuts. In addition, open wounds heal more quickly, reducing scarring.
Improved Cardiovascular Conditioning: Medical research shows that regular use of a far infrared sauna may be as effective for cardiovascular conditioning as exercise. As the body heats up, it cools itself by sending the blood from the internal organs to the extremities and the skin, thus increasing heart rate, cardiac output and metabolic rate.

Our Infrared Sauna has Chromotherapy, or Color Light therapy.
Color Light therapy is a technique of restoring balance by means of applying color to the body. Its history is rooted as far back as the Mayan culture.
Rejuvenating LED light therapy can be used for pain management such as joint and back pain, sore or torn muscles, sprains, arthritis, post-surgical scars, burns, wounds and more. When used with infrared technology, light therapy (phototherapy) is one of the most effective and noninvasive ways to repair the body.
Light therapy is also used to relieve Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). SAD effects individuals when the lack of sunlight results in seasonal depression. Phototherapy helps with SAD by resetting the internal biological clock (Circadian rhythms), helping individuals sleep better and regulate their mood. Even companies, such as GE and Philips, have created phototherapeutic product to improve and regulate mood.
Guidelines for Infrared Sauna use:
Hydrate your body before using our infrared sauna
Please don't come on an empty stomach, have a light meal prior to your session. You also do not want to be full as your body will focus on digesting the food versus detoxing.
Turn off your cell phone
You can disrobe to your comfort level in the sauna. Some prefer loose fitting t-shirt and short, a bathing suit or just wrapping a towel around themselves.
For pain relief we recommend visits 2-4 times per month. For Detoxification or Chronic issues, we recommend you schedule for 1-3 visits per week.
